The first section provides the reader with an overview on tailings and the issues that need to be addressed in all stages of the life cycle of railings. This section is followed by 21 case studies illustrating the specific components of management of tailings from planning through to closure. The cases are mainly presented in a two-page format in order to provide the reader with a quick appreciation of particular challenges and the means used to manage them.
