Government officials from Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, United States and China, representatives of the East African Community, UNEP and WHO, civil society organizations and industry met in the East Africa Workshop on the Development of National and Regional Regulations and Standards on Lead in Paints, which took place at the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 13-14 September 2016. The workshop was a follow up on a workshop held in Addis Ababa in December 2015, where 15 African countries agreed to work towards introducing legal limit of 90 ppm total lead in all paints. As East African countries were already working on harmonized standards on lead in paint, the workshop was held to provide a platform to discuss and agree on the next steps towards the establishment and harmonization of lead paint limit in East Africa and beyond.en_US
