This report is a terminal evaluation of a UNEP-GEF project implemented between 2006 and 2012. The main objective of this project was to address key barriers to the deployment of renewable energy based mini-grids for rural electrification in Zambia. The Renewable Energy Technology's (RET) alternative will displace diesel generation in the baseline thus achieving GHG emission reductions, and also provide a platform for RETs to move into un-electrified rural areas. The evaluation sought to assess project performance (in terms of relevance, effectiveness and efficiency), and determine outcomes and impacts (actual and potential) stemming from the project, including their sustainability.
