The seventeenth session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) took place from 11 to 15 of November in Durban, South Africa. The theme of the conference was: “Taking action for Environmental Sustainability and Prosperity in Africa.” From 9 to 10 November, regional multi-stakeholder consultations were held, with the goal of engaging civil society organizations and other stakeholders to effectively contribute during the main conference. The outcome of AMCEN was a regional statement by the Major Groups which also included recommendations on the UN Secretary General’s Special Summit on Climate Change. Major Groups have raised concerns over shrinking spaces for their participation at the AMCEN.en_US
